The Darby Team
Darby Consultants is the part of Darby Rural Corporation that deals with clients who want to build accessory buildings. We are a team of experienced construction folks who love what we do and have proven to be good at it. Often we develop significant relationships with our clients and their families. It doesn't happen accidentally. Those connections represent what we strive for and the essence of who we are. We want to offer ourselves to something meaningful that will impact the lives of those we serve. That impact may last as long as your building or longer.
The people comprising the Darby team derive deep satisfaction from seeing something valuable created from raw materials. We are fulfilled by the tangible result of intangible qualities at work. Qualities like craftsmanship, ingenuity, initiative, tenacity, integrity and pride that come from an old-school, American work ethic. We want to see these ingrained qualities invested into the solidity of steel and wood firmly connected to the earth. At the end of the day, you can stand back and see the results of who you are. We believe that how you do what you do defines who you are. We want the projects we participate in to define both our customers and us. Our customers sometimes like to watch the work. Often, they worry that workers will be bothered by their presence. Darby preferred vendors are not. It gives them a chance to show off and helps them fine tune their efforts at fulfilling your needs. Some of our most loyal clients were on the job from morning 'til night every day of the project. Our customers are more than a means to an end, they are the end. We love to figure out what they need and how to help them accomplish it. We enjoy walking through the process together and finishing as a team.
Curtis Miller grew up in Canby, a small farming community outside Portland, Oregon. He spent his summers working local farms and ranches. His focus in High School was architectural drafting and engineering in which he won several awards. Curtis spent the years during college working in construction where he honed his skills and developed a passion for exacting craftsmanship. He also worked with students as a counselor at Crossroads Community Church. After graduation, several years as a pastor earned/gave Curtis some of the important tools necessary in working with people. Both the time in ministry and 15 years owning a construction company has created a desire to see needs met and satisfied customers developed. Curtis' passion is creating a service that exceeds his customers' needs, facilitates rural life and builds community.
Loren Sickle's formative years were spent in a small community near Anchorage, Alaska. In this environment, he developed a great love and respect for outdoor activities such as competitive cross-country running or skiing, back-packing, mountain climbing and canoeing. Loren was first exposed to construction when he helped to build a bathroom facility for a youth camp in Scotland. The experience was so fulfilling, he joined the organization after high school graduation. Helping other young people have an experience similar to his involved Loren in 4 construction projects in Europe, Africa and the South Pacific over a 3 year period. During his college years, Loren pursued his interest in Graphic Arts until he eventually managed a graphic arts & printing company. After 12 years in the graphics industry, Loren embarked on what has become a 14 year career in the building industry. Employed by a general contractor, he has worked in all aspects of the construction process. Throughout this time he has worked to raise the level of professionalism within the industry. He continually strives to increase his knowledge and skills through conferences, workshops and certifications. As in his younger years, Loren derives satisfaction from helping people successfully complete their building projects. He believes that being on a team that brings to fruition the dream of a "neighbor" is part of the foundation of building strong communities and the essence of the rural life.
Meleea Miller grew up here in the Northwest. She has spent all of her adult life involved in people centered activities, both career and volunteering. Meleea is a gifted shepherd with a compassionate and caring memory for the details of people's lives and relationships. We rely heavily on her to set the pace as we take care of those who have entrusted us with their projects. In the realm of efficiency and organization, Meleea is unequaled. She can get more tasks accomplished in one hour than most can in a day. She has also invested herself in graphic design and photography. Her eye for aesthetics compliments both the large projects and graphic design elements of Darby Consultants. Last but not least, Meleea has spent many years simplifying the financial aspects of projects in the construction realm. You'll be happy to know her as part of the Darby team participating in your project. |
